*And if you don’t know what ADAS stands for, no worries. It’s short for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. 😉

If there’s one thing we all have in common, it’s that we all could sing the ABCs in our sleep. We are even taught that the appropriate amount of time to spend washing our hands with soap and warm water is the time it takes to sing the ABCs. So, we know you have your ABCs down, but you can apply this simple song to windshield replacement as well. There are so many factors and variables that go into getting your windshield repaired or replaced that it can get confusing. And because we know how crucial windshields are to overall vehicle safety, we thought it might be a good idea to go through some of the ABCs of windshield replacement. Let’s start with “A!”

“🅰️” stands for ADAS.

As we mentioned above, ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. At times, you may not even realize that your car has these systems in place! Why, you ask?! Well, first, Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technology is getting incredibly more advanced with each coming year. And two, automobile manufacturers are discovering seamless and intuitive ways to integrate ADAS into a vehicle’s operating system.

Let’s break down Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) even further.

Advanced.

This is simple. ADVANCED means high-tech. I mean if you think about it, people used to get themselves from one place to another by horse and carriage. I know, that’s probably going a little too far back! But even the earliest motorized automobiles were pretty basic. Back then, windshields were considered a “luxury” item so the majority of people didn’t have windshields! While it did get you from one place to another, speeds were very slow and it was not a comfortable ride. Plus, not a lot of people had cars so the safety concerns we see on our high-speed freeways was not something that existed yet.

With advances in technology, automobiles have come a loooong way and the history of ADAS has come a long way too! And what’s pretty awesome is that this incredible technology is not just being used to make cars “cool,” but it’s being integrated to enhance safety while out on our busy roads.

Driver.

This is also a simple one. These ever-evolving Advanced Driver Assistance Systems were created specifically to enhance DRIVER safety. A lot of responsibility comes with driving a car. Turning 16 is such a huge milestone because it indicates that you are old enough (at least in the eyes of the law, but maybe not to the parents) to take on this responsibility and treat it with the respect and the seriousness it deserves.

Assistance.

Again, it’s simple. ADVANCED technology is used to ASSIST the DRIVER. This is the person who needs ASSISTANCE the most to help keep them safe, their passengers safe, and the other drivers on the road safe. And while the assistance aspect of ADAS in incredibly useful, it’s always a good idea to understand the limitations of ADAS as well.

Systems.

There are many different types of ADAS and SYSTEMS simply refers to the fact that a lot of these systems build upon previous ones and work better when they are used together. It is these systems that are intuitively and seamlessly integrated into your car’s operating system to allow real-life application that truly makes our roads a safer place to drive.

Windshield Damage? 🚘

Are you currently driving around with a chipped or cracked windshield in a vehicle that’s loaded up with ADAS? If you are, it’s time to get that windshield repaired or replaced. Many Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) rely on your windshield to provide accurate and precise information when assisting or alerting the driver. And your windshield needs to be in good shape for this to work the way it was meant to, which includes an extra, but absolutely essential step of calibration of ADAS.
